The Art of Seduction

The Art Of Seduction: By Robert Green

Touted as a "handbook on the most subtle and effective form of power" and "an indispensable primer on how to take what you want from whomever you want," this book is more than a little creepy. Following on the heels of his 48 Laws of Power, this book continues Greene's gross exploration of social power, this time in the realm of sexual politics. In Part 1, Greene, again paired with "packager" Joost Elffers (Play with Your Food), offers a straight-faced description of the nine types of seductive character, from the "Ideal Lover" to the "Rake." Elffers's contribution comes in the form of numerous quotes by famous contemporary and historical figures tucked into the side margins. Part 2 examines the process of seduction, subdivided into four phases, with chapter headings such as "Master the Art of Insinuation" and "Isolate the Victim." This book will have real appeal for power mongers, gold diggers, and heartless manipulators everywhere.

He describes nine basic types of seducers, and each one is illustrated by marvelous examples from history and popular culture. Skillfully drawn and paced, the examples bring to life character types that will make sense to everyone from the casual listener to the serious student of this type of influence. The reading here is too dramatic for my taste, but it's a minor distraction in an otherwise captivating picture of how the skillful seducer operates.

Web Design and Marketing Solutions for Business Websites/byKevin Potts (Author)

Description

The best business websites serve their readers with strong content, well-architected design, and a focus on usability,
readability, and accessibility. This book covers the fundamental aspects of building a website that works for the
company, not against it. It covers the essentials of strong copywriting, and then dedicates several chapters to
designing user-centric About, Products and Services, and Support sections.
Your visitors come to your site because they are interested in your business and are therefore potential customers.
This book covers taking advantage of that traffic by expanding the companys story through a corporate blog and using
testimonials, case studies, and other third-party validation to reinforce the marketing message. With this knowledge
you will be able to create and maintain a highly professional, polished business site.
While a pleasing website is essential for any modern business, creating it is only a small piece of the online strategy.
This book also discusses search engine optimization, using e-mail and RSS to communicate with customers and prospects,
and advertising the corporate domain with paid search placement, online banners, text links, and more. The primary
theme is using your corporate website to market the business effectively, from designing intelligent product pages
to writing compelling e-mail newsletters. This book explores those ideas and offers compelling advice on how to take
full advantage of the Web as a marketing medium.

In this book you'll learn how to:

  • Implement best practices in corporate web design, with a focus on common sections such as About, Products and Services, Customer Support, and more
  • Use e-mail and RSS marketing to stay in touch with customers and prospects
  • Apply simple and effective search engine optimization techniques to push your website higher in search engine results
  • Advertise the site through e-mail, paid search placement, banner ads, and more
  • Write professional, accessible, and usable pages to make your site available to everyone

Topological Methods in Group Theory

Springer Published(December 17, 2007) | PDF file(473 pages) | 3.74mb(rar size)

Topological Methods in Group Theory (Graduate Texts in Mathematics)/byRoss Geoghegan
Description
Topological Methods in Group Theory is about the interplay between algebraic topology and the theory of infinite
discrete groups. The author has kept three kinds of readers in mind: graduate students who have had an introductory
course in algebraic topology and who need a bridge from common knowledge to the current research literature in
geometric, combinatorial and homological group theory; group theorists who would like to know more about the
topological side of their subject but who have been too long away from topology; and manifold topologists, both
high- and low-dimensional, since the book contains much basic material on proper homotopy and locally finite
homology not easily found elsewhere.
The book focuses on two main themes:
1. Topological Finiteness Properties of groups (generalizing the classical notions of "finitely generated" and
"finitely presented");
2. Asymptotic Aspects of Infinite Groups (generalizing the classical notion of "the number of ends of a group").
Illustrative examples treated in some detail include: Bass-Serre theory, Coxeter groups, Thompson groups, Whitehead's
contractible 3-manifold, Davis's exotic contractible manifolds in dimensions greater than three, the Bestvina-Brady
Theorem, and the Bieri-Neumann-Strebel invariant. The book also includes a highly geometrical treatment of Poincaré
duality (via cells and dual cells) to bring out the topological meaning of Poincaré duality groups.
To keep the length reasonable and the focus clear, it is assumed that the reader knows or can easily learn the
necessary algebra (which is clearly summarized) but wants to see the topology done in detail. Apart from the
introductory material, most of the mathematics presented here has not appeared in book form before.

Design Accessible Web Sites

Pragmatic Bookshelf (November 5, 2007) | PDF file(303pages) | 3.24mb(rar size)

Design Accessible Web Sites:Thirty-Six Keys to Creating Content for All Audiences and Platforms/by:Jeremy J. Sydik
Description:

It's not a one-browser web anymore. You need to reach audiences that use cell phones, PDAs, game consoles, or other
"alternative" browsers, as well as users with disabilities. Legal requirements for assistive technologies as well
as a wide array of new browsing experiences means you need to concentrate on semantics, alternate access paths,
and progressive enhancement.
Give your audience the power to interact with your content on their own terms. It's the right thing to do, and with
a $100 billion a year market for accessible content, new laws and new technologies, you can't afford to ignore
accessibility.
With this book, you'll learn basic principles and techniques for developing accessible HTML, audio, video, and
multimedia content. In addition, you will understand how to apply the principles you learn in this book to new
technologies when they emerge.

You'll learn how to:

  • Use best practices of accessibility to develop accessible web content
  • Build testing into projects to improve results and reduce costs
  • Create high quality alternative representations for your audience
  • Add accessibility features to external media like PDF and Flash
  • Negotiate the terrain of accessibility standards
  • Apply principles of accessiblity to new technologies as they emerge

Making a USB Drive or Memory Card bootable

Ok, I granted the requests of those who wants to know how to make their USB Drives bootable. Here is how.

This tutorial will explain how to make a bootable USB Drive or Flash Memory card. Your motherboard/computer will need to support such options and also note that this may not work with ALL usb drives or memory cards. We will be using PE Builder, HP's USB Drive format tool, and Windows Server 2003 SP1 to do this. Lets get geeking.

First things first; we need to get our ingredients/applications.

PE Builder

Download

HP USB Format utility

Download

Windows Server 2003

Download

1. Install PEBuilder. Make a note of where you install it since we will be hanging out there a lot. 2. Download the Windows Server 2003 SP1 update. We will not be running this update but extracting 2 files from it.
If you have Winzip installed, you can just right-click on the .exe file, and choose to Extract to Folder. Once you have the update files extracted, go to the i386 folder and copy the file: setupldr.bin to the pebuilder folder\srsp1 (you will need to create the srsp1 folder in the pe builder folder, usually C:\pebuilder3110a\ )

To get the second file, we will need to bust out some command prompt and the expand command.

First, lets make this easier and copy ramdisk.sy_ to the srsp1 folder we just created and has the setupldr.bin file in (ie c:\pebuilder3110a\srsp1\ramdisk.sy_

Open up command prompt and change directory to c: by typing: cd\

then type: cd pebuilder3110a
type: cd srsp1
and finally type: expand -r ramdisk.sy_ ramdisk.sys

this will expand the file to the srsp1 folder. you may get an error in the command prompt, you can ignore that since it still will expand the file.

You can now delete the windows server 2003 sp1 folder that we extracted the .exe to. we only needed the two files from the whole SP1

3. Download the HP USB Format utility. You will not need to install it since its just an executable file that runs. 4. Connect your USB Drive or insert your memory card, i'll use my 1GB SD card (since i have a pc that has a USB Memory card reader and my pc can boot to USB devices). 5. Run the HP's USB utility. Hopefully your device shows up in the drop down, mine shows up as Z: (along w/my other memory card reader types).

Change the File System to FAT and give it a label and click Start.

Do a yes to the warning and let it format. It shouldn't take too long and will show a results screen when done.

Click OK and then click on Close to exit the utility.

This utility basically will format the usb drive or memory card and also make the partition active (which seems to be key to getting it bootable and to work w/PEBuilder).

6. Open up PE Builder. It may ask to search for windows installation files, for now choose No. 7. Next, we will need to setup PE Builder to find our Windows XP source files. The easiest thing to do is just insert your Windows XP Setup CD and copy the i386 folder to your harddrive. I have all of my OS copied to my harddrive for backup and to run installs from.

Once you have the i386 folder copied, in PE Bulider click on the ... button under Source and browse to the folder where you copied the i386 folder.

Leave the Output as is: BartPE

Then under Media Output, also leave that at None.

Finally, you can now configure any plugins you may want to add such as Adaware, Ghost8, Nero Burn, etc. This is nice for making diagnostic/fix boot discs.

Once your done, just click the Build button. This will now create the iso file we will use to make the USB Driver or memory card bootable w/the BartPE os.

8. Finally, we will need to open up command prompt again.

Type: cd\ to get to the root of the c drive.

then change directory to the pebuilder folder, ie cd pebuilder3110a

finally, type: pe2usb z:

where z: is the drive letter of my usb drive or memory card.

let it finish and now try out your bootable usb drive / memory card. remember to set your bios to boot from usb-fdd if possible or usb-hdd (which ever your usb drive shows as).

Important Note:
Again, this may or may not work with your usb drive/memory card depending on the card/drive and your motherboard and how it boots.

--you can also format your usb drive using this command when you in the pebuilder folder:

c:\pebuilder3110a\pe2usb -f z:

the -f flag will tell the batch file to format the drive; this did not work for my Sandisk Cruzer USB Drive but the HP USB Utility did. I was able to boot it on a Dell C640 and X300 so far.

Learning ActionScript 3.0

Author: Rich Shupe and Zevan Rosser
Paperback: 382 pages
Publisher: Adobe Dev Library; First edition (January 4, 2008)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 059652787X
ISBN-13: 978-0596527877
Format: pdf
Details:

In this book, authors Rich Shupe and Zevan Rosser share the knowledge they've gained from their years as multimedia developers/designers and teachers. Learning ActionScript 3.0 gives you a solid foundation in the language of Flash and demonstrates how you can use it for practical, everyday projects. The authors do more than just give you a collection of sample scripts. Written for those of you new to ActionScript 3.0, the book describes how ActionScript and Flash work, giving you a clear look into essential topics such as logic, event handling, displaying content, migrating legacy projects to ActionScript 3.0, classes, and much more. You will learn important techniques through hands-on exercises, and then build on those skills as chapters progress. ActionScript 3.0 represents a significant change for many Flash users, and a steeper learning curve for the uninitiated. This book will help guide you through a variety of scripting scenarios. Rather than relying heavily on prior knowledge of object-oriented programming (OOP), topics are explained in focused examples that originate in the timeline, with optional companion classes for those already comfortable with their use. As chapters progress, the book introduces more and more OOP techniques, allowing you to choose which scripting approach you prefer. Learning ActionScript 3.0 reveals: New ways to harness the power and performance of AS3 Common mistakes that people make with the language Essential coverage of text, sound, video, XML, drawing with code, and more Migration issues from AS1 and AS2 to AS3 Simultaneous development of procedural and object-oriented techniques Tips that go beyond simple script collections, including how toapproach a project and which resources can help you along the way The companion web site contains material for all the exercises in the book, as well as short quizzes to make sure you're up to speed with key concepts. ActionScript 3.0 is a different animal from previous versions, and Learning ActionScript 3.0 teaches everything that web designers, GUI-based Flash developers, and those new to ActionScript need to start using the language.

GPRS Networks

GPRS Networks

* ISBN-10 / ASIN: 0470853174
* ISBN-13 / EAN: 9780470853177
* Binding: Hardcover

Book Description:

GPRS is a packet based wireless communication service that offers data rates from 9.05 up to 171.2 Kbps and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. GPRS is based on GSM communications and complements existing services such as circuit switched cellular phone connections and the Short Message Service (SMS).
GPRS represents the bridge between 2G and 3G mobile telecommunications and is commonly referred to as 2.5G.

Implementation of GPRS requires modification of the existing GSM networks in that GSM is a circuit switched technology while GPRS is packet oriented. GPRS enables packet data (the same as is used by an Ethernet LAN, WAN or the Internet) to be sent to and from a mobile station - e.g. mobile phone, PDA or Laptop.

WAP and SMS can also be sent using GPRS and individuals working with GPRS need to learn and understand how the mobile stations, the air interface, network architecture, protocol structures and signalling procedures must be modified.
GPRS offers much higher data rates than GSM and can be combined with 3G technologies such as EDGE to give even higher bit-rates. It offers many benefits for customers and network operators: such as volume (rather then time) dependent billing and more efficient use of network resources.

Due to the worldwide delay in implementing 3G solutions such as CDMA and UMTS the demand for GPRS is still growing.

GPRS Networks:

* Offers detailed information ranging from standards to practical implementation
* Answers ‘how’ and ‘why’ rather than just simply re-stating GPRS specifications
* Provides comprehensive coverage in a single volume

Essential reading for all telecommunications project managers, field engineers, technical staff in network operator and manufacturing organisations, GPRS application and service developers, Datacoms/IT engineers.
The comprehensive coverage also makes this a superb reference for students of computer science, telecommunications and electrical engineering.

Beautiful Web Design

Information:

Chapter 1: Layout and Composition
An awareness of design relies heavily on understanding the spatial relationships that
exist between the individual components of a design. The layout chapter kicks off the
design process by investigating possible page components. With these blocks defined,
we discuss some tools and examples that will help you start your own designs on a
solid foundation. Finally, we commence the development of a layout for our sample
web site design, which we’ll build on throughout the book.

Chapter 2: Color
Perhaps the most mysterious aspect of design is the topic of color selection. Chapter
2 sheds some light on this topic as we delve into both the aesthetic and scientific
aspects of color theory. Armed with these simple guidelines, and some tips for
creating harmonious color combinations, anybody can choose a set of colors that
work well together to complement the overall message of a web site. We’ll do just that
toward the end of the chapter, when we select a relevant and attractive palette for our
sample web site design.

Chapter 3: Texture
An aspect of web design that’s often overlooked, texture is the key to creating designs
that stand out. By understanding how the individual elements of texture function,
you’ll learn how to use points, lines, and shapes to communicate and support your
site’s message on a number of levels. We’ll then apply what we’ve learned to the sample
site layout, which will give us a chance to see firsthand just how much value texture
can add to the overall impact of a web site design.

Chapter 4: Typography
The importance of typography is self-evident. Type is everywhere, and
understanding the mechanics of written language is essential for any visual designer.
In this chapter, we’ll dive beneath the surface of this rich topic, exploring the basics
of the letterform, and investigating various typeface distinctions. When the timecomes, you’ll have the opportunity to get your hands dirty as we apply carefully
selected typefaces to our sample site design.

Chapter 5: Imagery
The necessary companions to any well-designed site are the images and illustrations
that grace its pages. In the final chapter, we’ll discuss what we should look for in the
visual elements that we use on our pages, and locate sources of legitimate supporting
imagery. Of course, finding the right image is often just the beginning. We’ll also learn
the basics of cropping, masking, borders, and file formats, before we take the final step
in our sample site design: incorporating imagery that supports our clients’ branding,
and helps communicate the message they’re trying to convey.
